What led you to F3, and how did your first post challenge you or inspire you in unexpected ways? How did you get your F3 nickname?
I first discovered F3 after seeing Patch post almost daily about this free men’s workout group. Golden Pinkey had also started a rucking group in the neighborhood I had just moved into, so I initially came out for the rucking. After doing some research, I realized it was the same group Patch had been posting about on Facebook. Price Check had actually told me about F3 almost a year earlier, even before I moved to Leander. I got my F3 nickname because, just a few weeks before my first beatdown, I had started a Father & Son Scouting Group, and Pedals suggested the name “Scout.”
During my second bootcamp workout, a car drove into the parking lot and tried to run us over. The way the PAX responded, and the camaraderie that followed, made me realize I was exactly where I needed to be.
What impact has F3 had on your life, and what lessons or moments stand out as defining your journey?
F3 has introduced me to a group of friends I didn’t even know I was searching for. I regularly run into PAX in public—at the grocery store, at sporting events, around the neighborhood—everywhere. I came to F3 for fitness, but what I truly found was fellowship.
F3 has given me PAX to look up to, who pull me along the way. PAX like Topsy, who rucks up a hill with a 50-pound backpack while carrying a 30-pound dumbbell, all while I struggle to keep up with just a backpack and a water bottle.
Respect and double-respect PAX like Newton, Disc Jockey, and Platinum Pinkey have shown me that age is just a number and given me something to strive for.
PAX like Impact and Price Check have modeled what consistency looks like and the importance of showing up, no matter what.
PAX like P.O. have shown me what leadership can look like, even when you don’t feel fully prepared or qualified.
Now, I get the privilege of being that encouraging H.I.M. in F3, as well as a friend, co-worker, mentor, father, and leader outside of the gloom.
What’s been the hardest challenge you’ve faced—either in life or in F3—and what did it teach you about perseverance?
PAX Trinity, Pedals, Doula, and Golden Pinky invited me to join them in running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. I only joined them every 8 hours, but it was one of the most physically demanding things I’ve ever done. This was shortly after I joined F3, and I was definitely not in running shape. From that experience, I learned that I’m capable of far more than I thought. Last spring, I set myself what seemed like an impossible challenge—to complete a 26-mile lap around Lake Georgetown. In March, I plan to complete that challenge and set even bigger goals for myself moving forward.
What’s next for Scout, and where do you see that next 43 feet taking you on your H.I.M. journey?
A wise PAX, Golden Pinky, once shared in a Circle of Trust: “Are you a contributing PAX, or a consuming PAX?” I want to continue contributing to F3 by striving to be the best version of myself for the PAX around me. I aim to bring energy to every workout and encourage everyone who shows up to keep pushing forward. I want to keep getting stronger, losing weight (I’ve lost 30 pounds in my first year), staying consistent, and serving as an example to newer PAX of what’s possible. My goal is to continue encouraging the PAX I encounter to dive deeper into their fellowship and faith—not just paying lip service, but truly living it out.
