How did you hear about F3 and how did you get your F3 nickname?

I was on the phone with my brother, who lives in Arkansas (F3 name: No Doubt), and he mentioned that he had just finished his daily workout. He told me about F3, a free nationwide workout open to all men, and suggested I look into it. I spent the entire day watching F3 videos, browsing F3 Austin’s website, and trying to understand what F3 was all about and whether I wanted to join. Initially, I didn’t want to join, but I knew I needed to make a change for my family. My wife saw that I was on the fence all day and gave me the final push to show up on that first day. I’m glad I did, and I’m glad she did. As for my F3 name, the PAX decided to go with Patch since I own a small Leather Patch Hat Business (Trevizohatco.com)*. You can always find me at the Beatdowns with leather patch hat!

You famously joined F3 Austin's Slack channel before coming to a beatdown and posted about being a little apprehensive about coming out. How nervous were you that it was going to be some "cult" you were about to join?

I honestly didn’t get the “cult” vibe before my first Beatdown. What I was nervous about was showing up to a workout group while being completely out of shape after not working out for a good five years, being the heaviest I had ever been, and meeting a bunch of guys in much better physical shape than I was (and still are).

What has been the most impactful aspect of F3 to you and your journey so far, and what do you enjoy the most in the morning gloom?

I remember one day during my first week, the Q had us running laps at AO Shootout. Of course, I was the Six. I could barely keep running, had my head down, and thought, "What the hell am I doing here if I can’t even finish a lap?" Suddenly, I saw someone (Sketch) running back towards me and started running behind me—not pushing me or telling me anything, just running at my (very slow) pace. That really showed me what F3 and “Leave No Man Behind, but Leave No Man Where You Found Him” is all about. That has to be one of the most impactful experiences I've had in F3.

What I enjoy most about being in the gloom is putting in the work both physically and mentally, and then being able to bring that back home and try to apply those Circle of Trust lessons with my family. And of course, I can’t forget about Coffeeteria with the PAX.

What's next for Patch, and where do you see that next 43 feet going in your F3 journey?

Next, I want to grow AO The Tribe. Sweathog was crazy enough to follow me on my idea of creating a new AO for our Hutto community, and one of my goals is to grow it—hopefully one day into a Shootout or Sasquatch.

On a personal note, being part of F3 has been exactly what my family and I needed without even knowing it. Being more active has pushed me to eat healthier, which has also encouraged my whole household to eat healthier, lose weight (30 lbs so far), and strive to be at least 1% better as a leader at home.
