How did you hear about F3 and how did you get your F3 nickname?
I was remotely Eh’ed (Emotional Headlock) over several months by SteamRoller (F3KC). In fact, the commitment to go to F3 came as he pulled up the F3 website and said… there… go there Wed. at 5am… it is called: the Greyhound. As for my F3 nickname, I was Named after the circulation community impact because I hated my paper route as a kid. Luckily someone decided to shorten it to just impact and the rest is history.
You’ve been with F3 Austin for quite some time….Can you share a little of your F3 Journey, What were some key milestones of that journey and how would you encourage others on their own journey?
So many milestones (wish I had journaled my journey more)…
Meeting HIMs at my first Beatdown – I did not know it by that name back then… but I immediately picked up on more than their fitness… they were humble virtuous leaders (and I was immediately drawn in)
Reading Freed to Lead – I loved picking up little bits of F3 history here and there during beatdowns, but FTL helped me not only know the history of F3; it helped me understand the why… no spoiler alert here… you must read it to get on the page with me. Did I mention, it is a MUST read?
Reading Q-Source – at first, I was reading the pages of Q-Source that were part of the Q-Source study that I joined, but then the study fizzled (or maybe I fizzled). The material was so good, that I kept reading it… took my sweet time but soaked it in like a sponge. Did I mention, it is a MUST read?
Learning about Rucking – rucking is amazing from an activity perspective… and yes, I met some Bad Mother Ruckers, but I can meet people in all kinds of places… when rucking, I got to know those Bad Mother Ruckers and I have been pushed to ruck on! As a side note, I don’t see it as Run vs. Ruck… I see it as when I Run, it is the only time that I don’t talk (to be honest, it is even hard to just listen) and how can I get to know a brother if I don’t talk with them. I can talk… and I can listen when I Ruck.
Learning about other PAX – via coffeeteria, I began to know more and more about more and more PAX. In my mind, a shift was made… F3 PAX, yes, but now also brothers.
Leading an AO – this is the craziest one for me… PAX come up to me all the time and give me praise for what I did for Sasquatch… but the biggest truth is that it is truly about what Sasquatch did for me. You see, I discovered Sasquatch back in 2020, but it would be years before I returned due to a (can’t make this up) butt injury (talk about a pain in the arse). I came back, for 1 day a week beatdown for a while, and then added rucking on Wed., and then added Friday and then MWF. Out of thankfulness, I asked to be the keeper of shovel flags at Sasquatch, but deep inside, it was about making a commitment to plant the shovel flags every MWF which meant I had to be there every MWF. We grow out of commitment… think about that.
SLT - Weasel Bot – Slack. Boom!
I would encourage others to make every effort to both show up and to shoot for the same milestones as above (no need to read between the lines… FTL and Q-Source are must reads).
You’ve been a major part of F3 Austin recent growth with your site Q’n at AO Sasquatch and weasel shaker roleo on the SLT, what have you seen making the biggest IMPACT for that growth at the AO level and from regional standpoint?
The more we understand and live out that we are more than just a fitness group the more growth I see. Virtuous leadership is the goal; fitness, fellowship, faith are the means.
What is next for Impact and where do you see that next 43 feet taking you in F3 Austin?
I am not sure if I am supposed to share this, since I am NOT the face of the Austin HIM Foundation… but… drumroll… it is the Austin HIM Foundation. So far, an amazing journey… looking forward to great foundational things in the very near future.
